So, you’ve reached that point in your life where you finally can indulge yourself and fulfill some long-time fantasies and dreams. For many that means buying a classic, collector car, or hot rod that you’ve lusted after all these years. Half the fun is researching and locating your dream ride which may be sitting in a neighbor’s garage down the street or in some dealer’s showroom in another state. Regardless, you know there’s a really cool car somewhere with your name on it.

What follows is a classic tale of woe that could have been avoided with a Webfoot Inspection.
A long-time car collector fell in love when he first saw this ’41 Continental. He walked around it, looked under the hood, drove it around the block and paid full price based strictly on emotion … and his “gut” feeling. He brought it to me for some adjustments and to give it a once-over. What I discovered was truly frightening. First off, the car had a ’41 front clip on a ’46 body. I put it on my hoist and discovered that the car was nothing but Swiss cheese, and the deeper I looked, the cheesier it got. It was a total rust-bucket … cleverly disguised and well hidden, but if you didn’t look under it you’d never know. And that was just the beginning. As I lifted carpets and pulled off door panels it became evident that this car had been dragged out of some field where it had languished for many years, given a two-bit mechanical restoration, slathered in Bondo and covered with a shiny paint job. Many thousands of dollars could be put into this car ... and it’d still be a rust-bucket I won’t go into any more gruesome details. I’m sure you get the picture. I should point out that this car was not misrepresented and was sold “as-is.” Sometimes sellers honestly aren’t aware of all a car’s issues and faults. You just need to ask the right questions.
